“The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six.” Maria Montessori
Wondering where to start?
Next time your child asks you to play, say “Yes!”
Easier said than done, right? Beyond the time constraints, play doesn’t come naturally to everyone.
But play does not come naturally to everyone. Our parents, and their parents before them, were not used to playing with children, and many of us lost that natural ability too, simply because we stopped doing it. Until quite recently, the importance of play was not truly recognised at all.
There’s a quote I really like, although I don’t know who originally said it: “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” Play is essential to life.
Play is how children make sense of the world. Through play, they experiment, repeat, test, communicate, imagine, and understand what they experience in everyday life. It is through play that they develop creativity, autonomy, problem-solving skills, language, motor skills, confidence, and even their relationships with others.
But play can also bring up a lot of questions.
"What is appropriate for this age?"
“Do I need to plan activities?”
“Why can’t my child play independently?”
“Am I stimulating my child enough — or too much?”
And that is exactly where my work comes in: helping parents understand what is really behind their child’s play, behaviour, and needs, so they can make clearer, simpler decisions that are more aligned with their child’s real development.
In 1 hour we will:
More Clarity.
More Intention.
Without unnecessary investment.
This is a space designed to support adult-child interactions and guide the learning experiences that happen in everyday life, with more clarity and intention.
Our mission is to empower parents and caregivers of young children with the tools and resources they need to navigate the incredible world of early childhood.
Why Can I Help?
From the age of 7 or 8, I knew I wanted to work with children — and that’s exactly what I went on to do for over 15 years. But even before that, whenever I could, I would join my mother in her classroom.
I worked in nurseries and kindergartens, across different contexts and countries, always with one central concern: to ensure a solid, respectful, and coherent start in life.
Then I became a mum.
And something changed.
My priorities shifted, but my concerns remained: how can we ensure that each child has exactly what they need?
Today, my context is no longer just the institution.
It is the families’ home.
I continue to look for ways to ensure that babies and young children grow up in environments that foster autonomy, emotional security, and genuine development.
And that is why I created this project.
Because I believe that informed and confident mothers make simpler decisions that are more aligned with what research shows: a child’s brain does not develop through an excess of stimulation, but through secure relationships, time, repetition, and meaningful experiences. Play, both free and intentionally supported, is one of the most complete ways to learn, grow, and develop autonomy.

I had the privilege of working with Sónia as a colleague and within the context of supervising the Learn, Play and Grow groups, and I highlight her work for its outstanding pedagogical and human quality.
Sónia demonstrates a deep understanding of child development, evident in the intentional way she creates rich, safe educational environments that respect children’s rhythms. Play is always at the centre of her practice, serving as the foundation for promoting autonomy, emotional well-being, and meaningful learning.
In facilitating and supervising the GABC groups, she demonstrates calm and consistent pedagogical leadership, creating welcoming contexts where children and families feel safe, heard, and valued. Her capacity for observation, reflection, and feedback clearly contributes to the continuous improvement of educational practices.
I would also highlight her empathetic and close communication with families, with whom she builds relationships of true partnership and trust. She is a committed, ethical professional, deeply dedicated to working with children, families, and educational teams.
I recommend Sónia without any reservation for projects and educational contexts that value a conscious, respectful pedagogy centred on the child and the family.
I highly recommend Sonia Azevedo for her exceptional work in designing and reorganizing children’s living and learning spaces. Sonia combines a deep understanding of child development and pedagogy with a very practical, hands-on approach. Her work goes far beyond decoration: she creates environments that truly support children’s autonomy, curiosity, creativity, and emotional well-being.
Each space is thoughtfully adapted to the child’s age, needs, and family context, always balancing aesthetics, functionality, and harmony.
What stands out most is Sonia’s ability to transform existing spaces and furniture into meaningful, structured environments—without unnecessary purchases—making her approach both sustainable and realistic for families. Her diagnostics, personalized guidance, and step-by-step support help parents regain clarity, calm, and confidence in their daily routines.
Professional, attentive, and deeply committed, Sonia brings inspiration while remaining grounded in real life constraints such as space, budget, and family habits. Anyone looking to reinvent children’s bedrooms or family living areas with purpose and intelligence would be in excellent hands with her.
I wholeheartedly recommend Sonia to any family or professional seeking thoughtful, child-centered space design.
Throughout our collaboration, Sónia consistently demonstrated a high level of professionalism. Her experience and strong knowledge of child development are clearly reflected in her daily practice. She places great importance on children’s well-being and consistently seeks to respond to their needs with care and sensitivity.
Highly empathetic, Sónia also builds trusting relationships with families. Parental support is an integral part of her professional values, and she is a present, attentive, reassuring, and supportive presence in her exchanges with parents.
She maintains an ongoing posture of reflection and continuous questioning, adjusting the environment, her practices, and her professional approach. This analytical capacity allows her to support each child closely, respecting their rhythm, needs, and individuality.
